PIIF and PSDI deliver Women in Super workshop to promote women’s equal access to retirement benefits
PSDI’s Economic Empowerment of Women and Financing Growth teams were in Suva, Fiji last week to support the Pacific Islands Investment Forum (PIIF) Women in Super workshop.
The 2-day workshop, organized by PSDI in partnership with PIIF and the Fiji National Provident Fund was held on 25-26 September. It brought together representatives of 12 superannuation, provident, and unit trust funds from 11 Pacific countries, to address the unique challenges Pacific women face in securing adequate retirement benefits.
Workshop participants engaged in discussions on overcoming institutional, social, and regulatory barriers that disadvantage women in accessing retirement benefits.
Sessions covered topics related to the resolutions from the 2023 PIIF CEO Forum, namely the collection, analysis, and reporting of sex-disaggregated data, strategies to engage women working in the informal economy, and the promotion of financial and retirement literacy. Participants also developed tailored action plans for their respective funds, aiming to implement the resolutions, and undertook a review of the Women in Super Manual, developed by PSDI to provide guidance and support for that implementation.
The workshop also discussed the establishment of a "Women in Super" network, designed to facilitate ongoing collaboration and support.
The workshop was part of PIIF’s broader Women in Super initiative, launched in 2023, which builds on a diagnostic study that PSDI undertook to identify the barriers to women’s access to retirement and non-retirement benefits.
